Membership

EMSK shall operate with indefinite number of members. Membership is voluntary.

Eligibility:

Membership is open to any Kenyan above eighteen (18) years who is interested in research and practice in the areas of educational management, educational administration, planning and economics of education, educational policy, and curriculum development. Subject to the approval of the executive committee, one shall become a member upon payment of a registration fee and meeting the requirements under any of the three categories below:

  • Fellows - An individual with a minimum work experience of six (6) years in education related field and holds a Masters/ PhD degree in educational management, administration planning, policy, curriculum development or any other relevant field with evidence of contribution in the authorship of at least four (4) key policy documents and/or research papers published in refereed journals.
  • Full members - An individual who holds Masters/PhD degree in educational management or any other relevant field of education with a working experience of at least three (3) years in any recognizable and reputable Kenyan educational institution or international educational institution.
  • Associate members - A holder of Bachelors of Education or an undergraduate student of education enrolled in a reputable institution of higher learning
  • Honorary members – An individual, not necessarily a member of EMSK, who has rendered special services to the society and education development in Kenya..

Membership and Subscription:

Registration fees for members of EMSK are specified as follows:

  • Fellows shall pay a registration fee of Kenya shillings 5000.00
  • Full Members shall pay registration fee of Kenya shillings 3000.00
  • Associate Members shall pay a registration fee of Kenya shillings 2000.00
  • Honorary Members shall make voluntary contributions and shall not be subjected to a set limit.
  • The registration fee is subject to review and amendment as need arises.
All membership application forms shall be accompanied by Kenya shillings 1000.00 as processing fee. Membership shall be renewed annually subject to payment of annual renewal fees as follows;
  • Fellows- Kenya shillings 2,500 .00
  • Full members- Kenya shilling 2,000 .00
  • Associate members - Kenya shillings 1,500 .00
  • The fee is subject to review and amendment as need arises. The annual subscription shall fall due every 31st December of each year.

Resignation, Suspension /Expulsion:

  • Any member desiring to resign from EMSK shall submit his/her resignation letter to the secretary. The resignation shall take effect from the date of receipt of such notice by the secretary who will update members during the Annual General Meeting.
  • Any member may be expelled from membership if the Executive Committee so recommends and if a general meeting of EMSK shall resolve by a two-thirds majority of the members present that such a member should be expelled on the grounds that his/her conduct has adversely affected the reputation or dignity of EMSK, or that he/she has contravened any of the provisions of the constitution of EMSK.
  • The Executive Committee shall have power to suspend a member until the next general meeting of EMSK following such suspension but notwithstanding such suspension a member whose expulsion is proposed shall have the right to address the general meeting at which his/her expulsions shall be considered.
  • Any person who resigns or is removed from membership shall not be entitled to a refund of his/her subscription or any part thereof or any moneys contributed by him/her at any time.
  • Any member who falls into arrears with his/her subscriptions for more than two months shall automatically cease to be a member of EMSK and his/her name shall be struck off the register of members. The committee may, however, at its discretion, reinstate such member upon payment of the outstanding subscription and provided that the affected member(s) pays additional fine as may be proposed by the committee.
  • Members on suspension shall have their case determined through a process of fair hearing. Their case shall be determined within a period of 6 months.
